Job fairs work for both those that are seeking new employment and those that own businesses that have positions open for new employees. Job fairs are normally held in a  auditorium, or if the weather is nice, can be held outdoors in a large open area. Most normally, companies send representatives to the job fairs to be able to answer any questions that potential employees might have about the business. Those same people can generally fill out an application at the site and turn in resumes and other information that they may wish the business to notice.

For a job fair to be more successful, many large firms need to agree on the appointed date so there will be a variety of opportunities available for those seeking employment. Sending good, knowledgeable representatives in to work the job fair is always the best way to have the company look more enticing to those seeking work. If you are looking for a job and have never participated in a job fair you are missing out. Job fairs are very exciting and a great way to make connections in the work world. There are many different types of job fairs, and we will discuss some of the options you may find.

Many colleges and universities host job fairs. They may or may not be only for students and alumni of the school, but if you qualify to participate this can be a great opportunity.  This type of job fair may be very widespread in the types of industries and companies they attract. The kind of school the fair is affiliated with will affect which companies attend these job fairs.

Another kind of job fair is one hosted by a certain corporation. These job fairs are normally for large companies that are expanding or for a company that is just setting up operations in a new market. This can be a great way to get on with a certain company if you have one in mind you are hoping to work with.

The final type of job fair we will discuss is an open job fair. These may be hosted by a chamber of commerce, labor board or a government organization. You will often find the widest variety of companies attending these fairs, however due to the fact that they are open to everyone, these job fairs are normally very crowded.

Job fairs are more common than ever in today’s uncertain economy. Companies appreciate the chance to see many job applicants in one session, giving them a better idea of which candidates to pursue. Job seekers like the chance to make connections with online courses and companies to check out what positions are available in one convenient location.

As a fresher, you may have been to many job fairs and interviews. You find that though most of the job fairs are genuine and promising, some are just conducted for either making money through the fees they ask you, or to conduct just for the sake of it. So how do you recognize a real job fair? How do you prepare for it and whether you should go for it?

The life of a fresher without a job is quite difficult. You may feel quite irritated and annoyed with the constant questions from people you meet on what your next plans are. Whether you have got a job or whether you are still hunting for one. In the beginning it may seem okay but later on you start losing your patience.

While going for a job fair, it would be good to do a bit of research on the companies that would be present at the fair. This would help you to get an insight on the type of job offers they have and also about the compatibility of the job requirements and your qualifications. A degree is not enough to get you a job; you have to prove your skills.

So what would you do? If you are looking for an experience, then it doesn’t matter whether the company is small or big, just accept whatever comes your way. But remember that the job should be something similar to what you want to do and have been trained for. Else, it would be a waste to do a job which you are suitable for, you would be wasting that much time.

Be prepared for anything when you attend a job fair. Be confident and don’t loose your cool. Always have a pleasant attitude, don’t be too shy or too bold. With these qualities and a good qualification you are bound to get into a good job.

Are job Fairs a Waste of Time?

Article Content Believe it or not, job fairs can be as useful as you want to make them.  For some people, a job fair is a complete waste of time, because all they are going to do is bop around and talk to people until they have made the rounds a couple of times.  But for other people, a job fair can be a great use of their time and end up being very effective, since they can meet some contacts, distribute their resumes and even interview for jobs on the spot.  While you can choose to be either of these types of people, you have to accept the responsibility for how you see a job fair, as well as how you approach the situation.

On the one hand, a job fair is a great chance to meet with recruiters.  In some cases, you can actually impress them enough that they will be willing to offer you an interview right on the spot.  You have to admit, it would be pretty cool to walk into a job fair, and a couple of hours later walk out with a job offer.  Of course, this does not happen to many of the people who walk in, but the chance to do so makes it more than worth the small amount of time and effort that goes into the deal.

But on the other hand, the entire job fair atmosphere can be a little bit rushed.  In a lot of cases, the best that you can do is to hand out a lot of your resumes, get a lot of business cards (and put them into those goofy plastic bags they always give you, like it’s the dentist or something), and try to get an interview later on.  In most cases, they are not going to remember you, since they spoke to hundreds of people that day.  But then, if you don’t attend, you will never be able to try.
